Raider (then known as Rene B) was built for Pilot George Bennett of Barry and named after his daughter. She was converted to a yacht by the early 1920’s and she was fortunate to have a series of long time owners who clearly cherished her. These included Captain John Moore RN in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s when she was based on the River Dart and who cruised in her to many places including Newfoundland, Suez, Archangel and the West Indies. Since 1977 she has been owned by Captain ‘Bob’ Douglas and has been undergoing a substantial and long running restoration.
