The Spring meeting of the BCPCOA took place on 6th May at Portishead as part of a weekend of racing in the Bristol Channel.

The Bristol Channel Race was scheduled for Saturday 4th but, owing to bad weather, was postponed until the following day when 6 boats set off from Barry. Unhappily Cornubia had to retire mid race due to a broken gaff jaw. The first leg of this race was run as the first Association race for the Westernman Cup.

Mascotte was the winner of the cup for this race and was also the winner of the Cock O’the Bristol Channel Cup for the Bristol Channel Race. Jan Roelan was awarded the Tern Cup for second place.

On Sunday evening the crews were entertained at Barry Yacht Club and cups were presented for the Bristol Channel Race.

Monday saw the cutters racing from Barry to Portishead for the Pilot’s Cup – again Mascotte was victorious.

On Monday evening a meal for all members was enjoyed at the Hall & Who pub at Portishead Marina, followed by presentation of the Pilot’s Cup and Westernman Cup, both to Mark Tyndall of Mascotte.

Racing back to Barry for the Breaksea Rose Bowl trophy took place on Tuesday and again Mascotte was the winner.

Congratulations to the crew of Mascotte for carrying off all the prizes!
